About Girl Guides

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. Thanks to the dedication and support of 100,000 amazing volunteers, we are active in every part of the UK, giving girls and young women a space where they can be themselves, have fun, build brilliant friendships, gain valuable life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and their communities. We build girls’ confidence and raise their aspirations. We give them the chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for good.

About Rainbows

Rainbows are the youngest members of The Guide Association (Girlguiding UK), aged between 5 and 7 years.  Here at 1st Flackwell Heath Rainbows we meet weekly for an hour, please contact us for details of when, where and fees.

We currently have 18 Rainbows, and we hold a lengthy waiting list.  You are strongly advised to put your daughter's name down well in advance of her needing a place.  Please use www.girlguiding.org.uk/interested if you would like your daughter to go on the waiting list.

What happens at a Rainbow Meeting?

Rainbows have lots of fun!  All Rainbows and encouraged to make choices and decisions about what they'd like to do at meetings and everybody's ideas are valued.  We like to chat and share ideas and experiences, do crafts, play games, have parties, try new things, sing songs and listen to stories.  About once a term Rainbows help plan which activities from the programme they'd like to do over the next term.

Do Rainbows earn badges?

A Rainbow will receive a badge when she has participated in activities that were part of the Rainbow Roundabout.  Rainbows don't have to have participated in all the activities of the Roundabout to earn a badge.  Sometimes we might do other challenges where the Rainbows can earn a badge.

Making the Promise

The Rainbow promise is "I promise that I will do my best to love my God and to be kind and helpful".  New Rainbows will be helped to think about the importance of making and keeping that promise and some Rainbow meetings will include a Promise Party for Rainbows who are ready to make the promise.  Rainbows who have made the promise receive a Promise pin to wear on their uniform.

The Rainbow Song

Below is the Rainbow Song that we sing at the beginning of each meeting.  The words are:

Look at the world around; Learn Everything you can; Laugh as you go along; Love this world of ours.  Look, Learn, Laugh, Love, Rainbows has begun.  We're all here now, come on and join the fun!
